The war might be coming to an end but the missions do not get any easier for Tom Harsker and his elite Commando unit. Incredible finish to a great adventure. Once again the master story teller Griff Hosker has out done himself. As an old Marine I have enjoyed everyone of his books and series. This one actually left me with a tear in my eye near the ending. Griff's ability to suck you into the story so that you feel like you are actually living it with the fictional characters iss amazing. I hated to have this one end. There are personal questions about the characters that I feel were left open but since those questions actually had nothing to do with WWII I doubt there will be a sequal to answer them. Still I look forward to everybook he writes....I have every one and so should you if you enjoy thrilling spell binding historical fiction.Product details

I have really enjoyed Griff Hosker's books. His writing style make you feel you could be part of the men at arms with the main character in the story. His writing style also makes it hard to put the books down until the end then once done needing to buy the next in the series
I actually liked the whole series (I read it, didn't I?) but some of the stuff just kept repeating over and over again. If he'd skipped the rubber sole shoes are silent in this volume, I would have given it four stars.
Excellent story but not necessarily factually accurate. The author places Oberammagau in Austria, but it is really in the southern German state of Bavaria; I attended military training there in the early 1970s, so I've first hand experience experience on the geography. Griffith Hosker does a tremendous job in maintaining historical accuracy; perhaps his researchers didn't do their duty in checking facts.
This series was great really enjoyed them, that being said this book was a let down. The ending was honestly like Griff was tired of writing the series and just decided lets just slap a quick ending on it. It felt rushed this book, two quick operations that were far fetched and to easy. Then last 10 or so pages was just him slapping a quick end to it.
If I had been his publisher or who ever it was that reads it before he puts them out, would have told him to spend another day and write it out more at ending, so much more he could have done with it.
I have liked all of Griff Hosker's series. This book caps off the WWII seies about the Commando unit that had transitioned from strictly a raiding force to a more conventional light infantry role. It takes the protagonist past his participation the Ardennes Offensive to his end of hostilities. A good read.
I just finished the last installment of Combined Operations, book 10 the war is finally over!!, even though all the stories were all page-turners. When you typically read a book you seldom see how the main character reloads his weapons, and had meals. The author once again put you right in the middle of the battle feeling what his characters feel, truly magnificent don't know what his next adventure would be but I look forward to reading whatever he has to write!
I have read the whole series as I have many of Griff's books. They are fun reading and I have learned a bit about periods of history which I only had a brief understandinh of the period. In terms of this series I was a little disappointed that it ran from battle to battle with an indestructible hero. After a bit they become formulamatic. The family charecters as well as the political characters are fleshed out but only used in a prefunctory way. It might be more interesting if he took a wider range view of the period. Not critical, the writing is great! Just some thoughts.
