He thought it would be fun. And a way to prove to himself that his vibrant youth was still in there somewhere. So this 61-year-old folk singer and acoustic guitarist signed on with a hip-hop band of 20 year olds, hit the road with them on a cross-country tour and quickly discovered how terribly naive he was.

Rapscallions The Misadventures of a 61YearOld Folk Singer Trying His Hand at HipHop (Audible Audio Edition) George Fuller III Inc Soundworks Books Reviews
Once I started reading this book I couldn't stop until I finished it. It is both interesting and funny and was better than expected!
Actually I'm glad I can just read about it. What an improbable and surprising true story. It's a fun coming of age tale that happens in middle age. I want to see the HBO series of it. And I certainly didn't want it to end. I hope this fellow goes on another tour soon and writes about it again. Great read.
Such a fun journey. I broke my "no reading my in the tub" rule because I couldn't stop reading until I finished this delightfully funny book.
I can only hope that I end up as cool and adventurous as this hilarious 61-year-old author. Rapscallions is a fun easy read, with unforgettable adventures throughout the entire book. The author's experience going on tour with 18 year olds at the age of 61 makes for a comic tale of courage, bravery, and down right craziness all wrapped into one nice beautiful package. I hope this book isn't the author's last.
There is the "traditional" bravery - saving lives unexpectedly in the face of difficult conditions. And then there's George, who as you can read in the book description is 61 years old and hops on a decrepit van for a hiphop tour of the United States with three "twenty somethings" - playing guitar, eating fast food, maintaining a wild irregular schedule, and staying with friends of friends or relatives of band members across the country. I think he's brave, and you'll enjoy this short, well written account of a wild trip to everywhere.
I want to write this while it's fresh in my mind. I hadn't intended to read the entire thing, but couldn't put it down (I even had to plug in my iPhone so it wouldn't die). "Rapscallions" is the delightful story about a 60+ folk singer who drops everything to embark on a quixotic tour of the East Coast and Midwest as guitarist for fledgeling Hip Hop group, Anonymous (And.On.I.Must). Part travelogue and part comedy of errors, it's really a love letter from one generation to another, written with Chaucer-like flair. I don't like bumper stickers, but should I ever find one that says, "If anything can go well, it will," I'll stick it on... and so will you!
Thoroughly enjoyed reading about George's hip hop adventure. Love the insight and humor he brings to this delightful accounting of his musical cross country journey. He writes about his fellow travelers with much love and respect. This adventure would make a good series. It would be fun to stay on the road with this band of easy going, live-in-the-moment musicians and friends.
Great story of a brave man and his music !!
