***#1 Best Seller in Dysfunctional Relationships***
Love by Deception shares a compelling true story of how meeting the wrong men can bring not only heartache, but real devastation in the most brutal of ways. K.C. is a successful woman in her thirties, thriving in every part of her life, yet failing miserably with matters of the heart.
We follow her turmoil as we unravel K.C.'s disastrous relationships covering a seven year period when time and time again, she becomes the unwitting, and unwilling victim to four extremely deceptive men. Whilst each man was different in his own way, they were all cruel and conniving . Therefore, she has been given the insight into the effects of verbal, mental, physical and sexual abuse.
Although KC has the world at her feet, and a jet-setting career working in the prestigious world of private aviation, for a Middle Eastern Prince, her ability to find a decent man seems impossible. During the most harrowing times she highlights the importance of life-saving friendships and her determination to never give up hope. Amidst all the drama, K.C. is determined to never allow any man to break her humorous spirit, and to continue her quest to find love with an open and tender heart.

This book is such a good message for all women, even those who haven't had similar experiences. It reminded me of some of my own experiences with my very short lived second marriage - first 2 years were great, and then he turned into a distant and condescending emotional bully. Not anything near what the author experienced, but I was certainly able to relate, especially to the hindsight thought of "Where on earth was I and what the hell was I doing??" I happen to know the author personally and can tell other readers that her narrative is very real and very indicative of the wonderful, warm and genuine person she is!Product details

Love by Deception A Harrowing True Story of Domestic Abuse Betrayal eBook KC Barnard Reviews
I have started this book several times and always ended up closing it and reading a different book. I don’t like to not read a book once I’ve chosen it though, so I bucked up and dove in.
This was a HARD read. Not so much due to the content as much as my desire to shake the author. Why would this be portrayed as a book to “help women”? She, literally, did nothing but describe four different instances of horrific abuse and awful behavior by the men in her life. Not only did she not once really leave when the abuse started, she never sought professional help (as in therapy) or report any of these women to the authorities (as with Devil Man and Cockroach fleecing her). She clearly made a great living and a civil suit could be expensive, but would have been worth it to see the man sweat in a court room.
Devil Man kept her hostage!!! Still, no therapy, no reporting?? Her family and friends who did not recommend she seek counseling?? I don’t know...my friends would have surely guided me in that direction.
I did feel slight sympathy for her, but mostly because she clearly had some sort of something that made her stay in these terrible situations. I truly hope she did get help.
This book was an different read that typical. And difficult to review. K.C. really does have the world at her fingertips. Between some really positive relationships, that she walks away from because she's just not ready to settle down, she has some disastrous relationships. And I don't just mean everyday run of the mill disastrous. We are talking full on how the heck did you get hooked up with a narcissistic psychopath disastrous. Some of the most negative of the human race individuals and she had relationships with more than one of them. I can see falling prey once in a situation like that and trying to find up to get out. But four times? I'd start to doubt my ability read people. I'd start to doubt that I even belonged in a relationship ya know? What am I doing to attract these cretins kind of mindset.
This book is written as a true account of one person's experiences. Up to and including references and resources for others who may find themselves in similar situations. It's a sit down with a girl friend over a cup of coffee leading to wine because good golly you're gonna need it kind of read. It's easy for people to judge because unless you were there in the moment you don't know what it was like for K.C. Even with the book people will judge because well 'didn't you see the signs, you've been down this road before' mentality. Hindsight, like this book was written, is always easier to see than in the moment. I applaud this author for putting herself on the line to tell her story. To share with other women, and even men, that these things are not OK. And that even a self sufficient, self assured, confident person can become prey. And that even individuals raised in loving households with good examples of positive relationships can fall prey. Domestic violence can take many forms and is never one size fits all. You can't pigeonhole who will become a victim. You can't pigeonhole who will become an abuser. And you can't even pigeonhole what you see from the outside.
This book could have used a few edits, a read through by a group of beta readers would have been handy with some of the spelling and grammatical issues. At times story flow as iffy. Yes, editorially it needed help. Please don't let that detract from the promise this book has. It's not every day you get to sit down with a book, as if it were a friend, and come through the other side of domestic violence. You don't have to suffer in brokenness. You don't have to survive with brokenness. There is hope. There is healing. And there is new opportunities and chances.
Wow! This story had me hooked to my computer not wanting to get up. With each page I turned the anxiety to know what happens next took me over. It's not often that I find such captivating stories but K.C Bernard's writing style and her way of expressing every detail is a sign of a skilled writer. She generously shares her life story and brings out the empathy and sympathy of her readers with each tale of abuse, lost relationships with evil men, and her hesitance to do what she knew in her heart was right. Love By Deception is a must read for every woman who has ever been in a series of unhealthy love relationships and wants to know how to break the pattern. An easy 5 stars!
I feel strongly that ten years from now, we'll be hearing K. Barnard’s name often and recalling the experience of reading Love by Deception like we recall a poignant life memory. I certainly hope, at least, that this is not the last we hear of this author. She has a gift for authenticity and raw storytelling which is both fresh and palpably captivating. The story of KC is heart-wrenchingly beautiful, jarringly and abrasively attention-commanding, and it earned the compliment every good author attains to, which is "I couldn't put this book down!"
Thank you for such a compelling, thought-provoking read, as well as for an unforgettable experience.
