As the story opens former CIA agent Damon Mallory is in prison, having been convicted of crimes against humanity. He sees himself as a man who tried to help humanity by eliminating undesirables.As a CIA agent Mallory had learned about a new disease that had developed in Africa. Since this disease is almost always fatal, he plans to use it to infect undesirable people. The Disease of course is AIDS. Mallory is a section chief, and he enlists his crew to help him in his scheme. In the end, the amoral CIA man is punished in a surprising but believable way.
House in Virginia is a good story. It caught my interest right away. One point where it flagged was when it went to some detail about the background of minor characters (Mallory’s crew). The book also could have used some tighter editing.
